The Monster House, 10.17.2009

I did a terrible job of remembering band names this night, so any help would be appreciated.

1-4: Slingshot Dakota. Poppy, synth-driven dance music is not my thing, but it’s alright seeing live in a basement with your friends. Not sure what stood out more, either their talent or energy level.

5-7: unknown

9-11: Slugging Percentage. I had little expectations for this band when I heard they only played drum and bass and sang about baseball from the 90s. My experience is these smaller bands tend to be generic and our national past time is, by far, the most boring team sport in America. I mean why would you even consider thinking about baseball during football season.

Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised by this set. Everyone was laughing and this doo was great in a Monster House kinda way. Also, I was reminded of the time Nolan Ryan got Robin Ventura in a headlock when he charged the mound and beat the shit out of him. Hopefully SP doesn’t retire after just one set.

In the future I do have to recommend a song about Ricky Henderson. Think of the fun you can have singing in the third person?

Bonus: Stumbled upon the Web site of photographer Hilary Harris. Definitely worth taking a gander.
