My Canon metering sytem and Photoshop have no idea what to do with that hair.

Brown Town Update
Posted in DIY with tags Athens, Brown Town on July 14, 2009 by blackcloudphotoAccording to Max from Brown Town, the active show space in Athens will be around for another year despite threats from the city to shut ‘em down.
How were a relatively small number of punks able to win against the big bad city of Athens? Evidently letter writing from out of town fans of their shows and non-punk neighbors.
Max said the ordeal was worrisome but ultimately made the community stronger.
Day Creeper @ Skylab, 7.11.2009
Posted in Columbus, DIY, review with tags Daycreeper, Skylab on July 13, 2009 by blackcloudphotoDaycreeper is one of those Columbus bands that’s been around awhile and I’ve never seen before.
Humm… normally names like this tend to catch my attention…
While Daycreeper will not do anything to blow you away, normally that’s an insult, they are really talented with their catchy, bar-band style. They’re the ideal band to see at a place like Bourbon Street.
After a night of typical Skylab noise, it was nice to end on Day Creeper.
“Be Safe My Little Viking,” stuff by John Malta @ Skylab
Posted in Columbus, DIY, art, review with tags gallery, John Malta, Skylab on July 12, 2009 by blackcloudphoto
Hip without being hipster. An art school best-case scenario.
“Be Safe My Little Viking” kinda reminds me of adult-versions of the monsters from Where the Wild Things Are. Fortunately, there’s no moral about how you have to grow up at this gallery.
I’d seen John Malta’s photocopied zine and loved his weird creatures, but in color they’re much more repulsive and lovable. My favorite was the Bat Shaman, but I also liked the parents slicing open their children and the ones were mythological giant cats are being rode.
Great work priced well, between $20 and $200.
The exhibit is also important because Skylab is turning into a more legit (and regular) gallery. The Black Cloud couldn’t be more excited. Out of all the bullshit galleries in town (just about everyone) Skylab usually has the only art I care about.
I guess commission is 20% which is unheard of in the gallery world. Maybe one of these days I’ll get around to displaying my photos again.

Trashbar

Growing up near Youngstown, the Nashbar outlet store was our little secret for the most insane deals in cycling. Their mail order was always the cheapest, but the amount of strange and cheap items in their outlet store went unrivaled. It was better to cycling than Columbus Camera Group is to photography.
After checking my debit card transactions lately, turns out someone affiliated with the company has been using my card without permission under the disguise of several different websites. Read more about this scam here.
The moral to this post is boycott Nashbar. I am not an isolated individual and the fact that this scam has gone on for years makes the company a willing partner.
