The Ultimate Male

Been slacking on the blog, but that should change now that the novelty of my new beemer is wearing off, the neighbors aren’t stealing my Internet and making it unusable, and I’m no longer depressed about my broken leg (blogging just didn’t seem that appealing).

Until I get some new photos, which should be no problem this month as there’s a show every day, anyone interested in BMX can read about who all the Internet BMXers call the ultimate male.  Joe Rich is a true hero.

As if the name White Castle wasn’t enough to tip you off that the world’s worst fast food company is really a white supremacist front.

Do you want more evidence?  This year is their 88th anniversary and they’re pushing this big advertising campaign. Why celebrate your 88th anniversary? I mean 85 and 90 make sense, but 88…

The eighth letter of the alphabet is “H” and in white power code “88″ stands for “Heil Hitler.”

Fuck White Castle, Heil Krystal.

I would find it hard to believe that many people have more fun than my friends and I.

album review: It don’t mean I don’t love you by Hurray for the Riff Raff

Went out to see Dark, Dark, Dark a few weeks ago and had the light shown on me for a new band, Hurray for the Riff Raff. Of course it was the one time I’m too lazy to ride back 10 blocks and get my camera …

It wasn’t even because of a punk crush, alright that ’s a lie, but that’s only part of it. Besides, after listening to the singer’s songs about how women have broken her heart I don’t even think I’m even her type.

Live their accordian player was downright dynamic and the build ups were more climatic, recorded they’re more relaxing with the banjo and lyrics being the centerpiece.

The only comparison I can think of that is remotely similar is Dark, Dark, Dark, and not only because they toured together (Time and Temperature was about as perfect of a local opener as you could ever expect).

If DDD is like winter in Minneapolis, HFTRR is like winter in New Orleanes. If DDD is polished, HFTRR is that right level of rawness. If DDD is Midwestern, HFTRR is the transplant playing Southern tunes right.

Maybe they really are from the South, but either way, their music is sprinkled, and thankfully not overloaded, with references to the romantic culture down yonder. Ahh, everything in moderation.

What makes this music the most appealing, however, is the genuineness. I can’t think of a time I’ve heard someone pour more of their heart out without being corny or unbearable.

A post for the bike nerds

The only interview and feature story I’ve seen about Paul Price, the owner of Paul Components. Makes me want to keep buying expensive US-made bike components.

Meg’s Birthday Party

Best quote of the night, which I’ll keep anonymous was:

“A few years ago when you went to dance parties everyone wanted to fuck. Nowadays, no one wants to fuck.”
