Dime-a-dog night…

Posted in Columbus on June 16, 2009 by blackcloudphoto

… was almost a failure. Ten cents for a hotdog is only a deal if you don’t have to stand in line for hours. Already upset by the stadium relocation to yuppie land and the shortage of general admission, the Westsiders I was with were not happy about the dog situation.

By the eighth inning you could get ten dogs for a dollar in a reasonable amount of time, but why not wait just one more inning and get them for free? Our intentions were pure when we were stucking up as we exited, but when you’re sitting in the back of a truck full of hotdogs you have to throw them.

Go by the Orphanange, Kenton always sits on the porch. It was empty.

Go by the Monster House. Forget it, no one ever sits on their porch.

We get stopped by the redlight at King and High and crossing our path is none other than the infamous Monday Night Bike Ride. We unleashed every dog we had.

I’ve had everything from bottles of urine thrown at me while ridng my bike to batteries, water balloons, and even a dildo. It felt good being on the other side of things for once and throwing something harmless that wouldn’t hurt anyone. Is this a new Columbus tradition?

“Buying a house?! That’s is so unpunk.”

Read over a long lunch break, Fort Mortgage is a split work by zinesters Kisha and Taco David about their adventure buying a house in Chicago. It’s equal parts critical information and tips to make the ordeal easier. Artwork is kept to a minimum and the writing is concise and informative.

If you’re clueless when it comes to the process it takes to own your own home, read this twice and you’ll know more than you would by staying up all night, multiple times, surfing the Web or by meeting with a real estate agent … who’s probaby not punk.

For those in the know, there’s little new information, but the zine serves as a confidence booster when you hear that yes, it is possible for a punk to buy a house.

All I need to do now is decide where I want to live for the next 30 years.

For more information, email Taco Dave at tacolove at gmail dot com. To buy, visit Microcosm.

Nukkehammer @ The 15th House, 6.5.2009

As a photographer I try to stay out of the way as much as possible which usually means standing near the speakers. If you do that with a band like Nukkehammer you’ll pay the price of ringing ears until you fall asleep.
