Fans of The Black Cloud have spoken and demanded my return. Not really, but it was nice hanging out this weekend in Athens hearing old and new friends alike comment on the site and get on me for missing five days. There’s no good excuse for my absence,  just too many tw0-wheeled hobbies.

I was planning a detailed response regarding the all-local show at The Summit these photos are from, but the consensus is that people want to drop the issue and the comments everyone left in the last post touched on just about everything. Still, it’s important to talk about these issues so … my turn.

While I’m a fan of music outside DIY punk and have no problem paying a business (like Bourbon Street/The Summit where I’ve been to many good shows) to see bands I like, this one would have been better at a house. I’m not upset at anyone, and yeah, yeah, yeah, it was my choice to go (I assumed there would be no cover because without us that night who the fuck would have been inside spending money?), but I think in our control we could have put on a better show.

Also, not sure if it’s maturity, but the older I get the more I’m appreciate all age shows. When I was underage I enjoyed the challenge of sneeking into some place I was supposed to be, but not all the youngsters today have my (past) fence-hopping skills.

It’s hard to imagine now when we have DIY shows almost every night, a few nights a week there seems to be competing shows, but Columbus recently had a drought were no one was doing house shows and instead of doing anything about it many decided it would be easier to move to a cooler place. Maybe I’m beating a dead horse, but it’s important not to take these good times for granted.

Again, I don’t mind having fun at a bar and I enjoyed this show, but the most memorable shows I’ve been to have been DIY.

Well, except for The Pogues, but I’m working on booking them at The Legion.
