Everyone’s dog is the best.
But try to find a dog that was as happy, loyal, fun, well behaved and smart as Rex.
No matter how long in between my visits he was glad to see me. If you accidentally stepped on him he was sorry he got in your way. He never chewed up things and rarely barked. His list of tricks were impressive. He wanted to be everyone’s best friend.
I can’t even estimate how many times I used walking him as an excuse to go out late and meet girls. Usually the night was uneventful, but Rex never seemed to mind.
I was hesitant to take him for a walk in his favorite woods last Christmas because at the age of 12, elderly for a 110-pound yellow lab, his hips were starting to give out, but it showed another side of why I loved him so much: he was full go and happy despite his ailments.
We gave him the best life a dog could ask for him, and in return Rex gave us more.
