Everybody ready for some good old-fashioned local journalism drama? I found out about this way after the fact, but reading all the comments is a great way to kill a day’s worth of work.
Not sure why someone would invest in print journalism now, but a new free magazine catering to young professionals called 614 is coming out in April.
The thought of a magazine that sounds like some bastard hybrid of The Alive and Columbus Monthly, made worse because it’s target readership, 25 -35 year olds, is called Generation Columbus, is nauseating with or without the hangover they’ll likely give me tips for how to cure.
There is some potential saving grace. Walker Evans from Columbus Undergound will be doing restaurant reviews and hopefully he can spice up his writing with more passion than found on his site (CU’s biggest weakness) and visit places off High Street or in yuppie neighborhoods.
The other wildcard is editor David C. Lewis. I haven’t met this self-imposed Hunter S. Thompson reincarnation, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that he wouldn’t attach his name to another shitty Columbus publication.
